Saugerties Concerns Mission Statement

Saugerties Concerns seeks to be a vehicle by which a citizen or neighborhood can get their concerns to the community when they can be solved, before they become bigger problems.

You do not have to be a member or attend a meeting. Just let us know what your genuine concerns are and we will do our best to help address them.

As you may know or eventually find out, many simple problems are compounded by local politics. Some officials either like control or are okay with being controlled by people who like to control. In that case right or wrong has no value. This is the biggest concern that shadows all community efforts.

We are now seeing shotgun development and immediate consequences. Our assessments are doubled and more. Everyday costs are rising. It is necessary for communities to work together on these issues. Apathy is is a primary contributor to these problems. Some of us just throw our hands up in disgust. Unfortunately some problems, have simple solutions. Being a "warm body" at a meeting with many others sends signals to officials who rely on the votes of e community. In some cases, officials don't have an idea what the community wants. The voices need to be out there. It doesn't have to always be an antagonistic one ( although occasionally it's the only one that can be heard) just a good consensus of the majority will be a good place to start.

There is much good abound in Saugerties and we hope to shine a light on that too.
Saugerties Concerns maintains a web presence, and is but one voice available to the community.

This is our operating philosophy.
We are part of the 'concerns' websites springing up all over the Hudson Valley.
We will share local and regional news, and address our politicians on issues that affect the wider community.
We will share information and research and concentrate on planning and vision to protect our area from unplanned Suburban Sprawl currently moving up intothe Hudson River Valley, threatening our scenic vistas and productive farmland.
Our area has already had to take firm positions to confront cement plants like the SLC in Greenport and Lehigh Cement across from Germantown as well as inappropriate mining in Milan and here in Saugerties.
We want to help Saugerties grow and expand economically, but with a plan that serves the entire community. We promote responsible businesses and stand vigilant to protect our local environment and way of life.
