"Gradualism is a good thing in cities and towns because they are complex environments," he said. "When you try to do things in one fell swoop, the results are unpredictable and often disastrous."

Planning is ongoing by the Richmond Group principals in developing the property right next to this pictured storage facility on Route 9W in Barclay Heights. This will be a low income housing project that will include 80 units.

The Town master plan is a good blueprint.
Zoning will be the test of commitment.

''Any untoward environmental impact that housing may have is controlled by local boards,'' said Sean Nolon, of the Pace University Land Use Law Center. ''The reality is it is local laws that are going to protect us from future environmental problems.''

BOOM TOWN:

Saugerties growing at breakneck pace
  Freeman Story

Will Rip Van Saugerties,
wake up before its too late?

Taking your eyes off the road for just a minute on any of the main business corridors and especially Route 9 you will see a clear case of sign abuse.
Bigger is better but more seems to be a trend as well. One service station had 23 signs all visible from the road.
It appears that they are all largely ineffective. Like those repetitious political lawn signs. After a short while you see none of them.

Remember this?
