To Town of Saugerties Transfer Station Customers

In 2006 there will no longer be a recycle only permit. There will be one permit for all site users, which will cost $15 per year.

Due to increased costs for trucking and increases in other services provided to the transfer station as well as rising fuel costs, there will be rate changes in 2006 which will affect all customers.

Additionally, there will be rate changes for items that were not increased when the new bag system was approved in 2004.

Affected items include tires, freon removal from appliances, construction and demolition items, wood, shingles, floor laminates and tiles, furniture, loose trash, etc.

The Transfer Station will pay a per container charge for 2006 for recycle items as well. Our minimum increased cost based upon the number of boxes pulled for 2005 will be between $45,000-$50,000.

Furthermore, we are experiencing a large volume of trash, tires, white goods, furniture, etc. being dumped along the roads, which is being absorbed by the station.

If any of you see these activities taking place, please take the time to get a description of the vehicles used, the people involved, dates, times, etc. and turn this into your local town police. This is the only way to solve this growing problem. GET INVOLVED AND HELP SOLVE!

We have also witnessed many occasions in which customers are committing theft of service by stating that they are throwing I bag away and are in fact throwing away multiple non-prepaid bags and other types of trash. Warnings are being given for a first offense. Once you have received a warning for dumping trash not paid for, the second offense will result in your being banned from using our station. It is not fair to those who follow the rules and who are honest to pay for those who try to beat the system. Cameras will be installed throughout the site in 2006 to aid in our ability to eliminate this problem.
